Porcelain Queen Archives | Laura Mercier Foundation | #8

Today I'm back with another post from my Archives series, I love writing these posts as I enjoy reading the original review and seeing if I still feel the same way about the product now, I also like to see how I am progressing with my blog photography.

For today's post I'll be looking back at my past favourite Laura Mercier foundation and seeing if I still feel the same. You can read the original review below

This was once my favourite foundation, but when I whipped it out over winter I was shocked by how much my skin disliked it. The formula which one felt like a second skin to me, now feels like a suffocating mask. The coverage that I once craved I now cringe away from, and the colour that I once thought was perfect, I now notice how it oxidises.

I wore this for a few weeks on and off, and I noticed my skin rejected it and it quite rudely and unnecessarily clogged my pores. The formula, I noticed was quite drying on application, but by the end of the day it was an oxidised and oily mess.

I do not know what's changed with my skin for it to quite openly reject my once favourite foundation.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Face B4 | Two Week Update

FaceB4 Face B4 Skin Care Face Wash Serum
Its been two weeks since I started my four week skin care trial of Face B4 and I though I would share thoughts and results so far.

The first week I was using this to remove my makeup, but gradually it started to sting my eyes, and I was waking up with panda eyes in the morning - not good. So I changed my technique and started to soak my makeup off with my trustly Garnier Micellar Water, then wash my face. I have noticed the past couple of days my face feels tight around 5 minutes after washing my face, so I rush to use serum straight away. Although my skin feels tight after washing, I have noticed my dry patches have disappeared completely and I think this is due to the heavenly serum. It is a gel formula that not only soaks into the skin but also leaves residual moisture on my skin which means primer has become obsolete. I have not yet noticed any change in the level of oiliness in my skin, but I'm hopeful that will come in the next couple of weeks.

Has anyone else tried Face B4 - before?

Makeup Revolution Awesome Metal Eye Foil | Rose Gold

You know when you buy a product and you disregard it for months then finally use it and become obsessed? Well that's the deal with me and Makeup Revolution's Rose Gold Awesome Metal Eye Foil. At first this strangely squishy eyeshadow can be quite hard to fathom but once you master it you'll become completely and utterly obsessed.
Makeup Revolution Awesome Metal Eye Foil 'Rose Gold' | £4

I think the same thing every single time I use this gorgeous eyeshadow, 'how do they make a profit on this product'? Wrapped up in one box is a mixing medium, a mixing tray and the eyeshadow itself, which leads me to my original question - how do they make a profit?

The formula of this eyeshadow is like no other I have ever encountered, its soft and for lack of a better word - poke-able. It has extremely pigmented pay off, which depending on application style, can be shimmery and glitzy, or reflective and metallic. My preferred application method is with the Real Technique's Detailer Brush.

I went way too heavy handed on my first application and it made my eyelids look wrinkled - not good. The second time I applied it in thin layers and built it up gradually and it looked heavenly. If you prefer you could always apply the bulk of it with your finger and neaten the edges with a flat synthetic brush. This eyeshadow is not one to use in a rush, it can take a good few minutes to apply so bear that in mind if your wanting to use it for everyday use.

These are a great alternate to the Stila Magnificant Metals collect, at a fraction of the price. I haven't used the Stila version so I cannot compare quality, but the Makeup Revolution version ticks all the boxes for me.

At £4 these are an absolute steal, and I really want to purchase the other shades, and it wont hurt my bank balance to do so.

What are you thoughts on the Awesome Metal Foils?

LA Girl Pro Concealer

A while ago I placed my first ever order on Beauty Joint, which I was extremely happy with, all my items arrived safe, whole and swiftly. I was so excited to see they stocked one of YouTube's most talked about concealers, and for only £1.94.

I have used this concealer none stop since it landed on my door mat, and I haven't reached for my MAC Pro Longwear once.
LA Girl Pro Concealer - Porcelain | £1.94

I have never used a concealer with a brush style applicator before, and boy have I been missing out, the bristles make precise application effortless, and you can distribute the product before buffing it in with your chosen tool. The packaging is more practical than stylish, however for £1.94 I really couldn't careless.

The coverage is identical to MAC Pro Longwear, but it is a slightly thinner formula. I find I get the same coverage when I apply with a brush, which is my current preferred application technique. I chose the shade 'Porcelain' which is a perfect match for my skin tone - which is NC15 in universal MAC terms.

For the price and coverage this concealer gives, I'll be rebuying for the foreseeable future, and at £1.94 it will not be breaking the bank.

Have you tried this concealer?

May Beauty Wishlist

This month I'm only wishing for a few beauty and makeup products, and here they are...

Makeup Revolution // Ultra Blush and Contour Palette - Golden Sugar // £6.00

I hear so many talking about the Makeup Revolution blush and bronze palettes, but I have never tried any myself. This palette is so cheap, eight pans for £6.00.

Makeup Academy // Pro-Base Prime and Conceal Powder // £4.00

I really do not like using coloured powders on my face as I find they darken the shade of my foundation, I have always fancied trying out these strange, and scarily pigmented powders as an alternative.

Makeup Geek // Foiled Eyeshadows Expansion Pack // $89 / £58.44

I have the original 10 foiled eye shadows, and I really want to expand my collection and buy the latest editions - and with shade names like 'Unicorn' and 'Whimsical' who wouldn't want them?

Too Faced // Air Buffed BB Cream // £32.00

Recently I have been trying out lighter bases, and this whipped formula cream caught my eye.

Makeup Revolution // Protection Palette - Light // £6.00

I came across this palette when browsing the Makeup Revolution website. This sounds like the perfect 'in a rush' product, containing concealers, highlighters, bronzers and blushes all in one continent place.

What are you wishing for this month?

Top 10 for under £10 | May

When I rummaged through my makeup collection to collect my products for this post, it was a lot harder than I thought as a lot of the products I have are under £5 or slightly over £10.

Boots Botanics 100% Organic Facial Oil // £9.99
I recently been transitioning into all natural skin care, and this facial oil moistures my skin without any harsh chemicals or added nasty ingredients.

Rimmel London Provocalips // £6.99
I have a love / hate relationship with these liquid lipsticks, I love how pigmented and long wearing they are, but I hate how difficult they are to remove.

Rimmel London BB Cream - Matte // £6.99
I love this for days where I'm in a rush and want to throw on a quick and easy base. It mattifies my skin without it being too drying and clinging to any dehydrated areas.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams // £7.00
It's no secret how much I love these lip creams, and recently I expanded my collection. If you get chance to buy one of these lip creams just do it and thank me later.

The Body Shop Big & Curvy Mascara // £10.00
This is my favourite lower lash mascara, the brush is super thin and narrow so coats my lashes without leaving black smudges on my under eye area.

L'Oreal True Match Powder // £8.19
I like to buff this into my skin on days where I'm wearing an extremely light base, or to blend out bronzer or blush if I've been too heavy handed.

NYX Eyeshadow Base // £6.00
This is my holy grail eye shadow base, and such a great alternative to a MAC Cosmetics paint pot.

Makeup Geek Pigments // £5.27 (exchange rate dependant)
I have made no secret of my love for Makeup Geek products, and the foiled eye shadows are some of the best products they sell. A mix between a powder and a pigment they provide extreme pigment without the need for a base or mixing medium.

MAC Cosmetics Pro Palette Eyeshadow Refill // £10.00
Everyone loves a good MAC Cosmetics eyeshadow - espencially 'Expensive Pink'.

LUSH Shampoo Bar // £5.75
I've been using 100% natural hair care for a while now and my hair has been in the best condition it's ever been. LUSH shampoo and conditioner bars have been a staple in my hair care routine for a couple of months, and they're better value than regular shampoo and conditioners.

What are your favourite products for under £10?

MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer

MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Laquer Reckless
Liquid, matte lips are the hottest new trend, and recently they've been taking over the shelves of every drug store. I picked up an MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Laquer for £3 from Superdrug, in the shade 'Reckless'.

I had high hopes for this lipstick, the price was right and the colour was on point, however the formula was not.
MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Laquer Reckless
Swatches of MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Laquer Reckless
MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer 'Reckless' - £3

The packaging is casually chic, the frosted tube takes away the drug store appearance. It has the typical doe foot applicator which I find the best and easiest for applying a mattifying liquid lipstick.

The colour pay off is absolutely amazing, and completely opaque. 'Reckless' is a mix of fucshia pink and a deep red. Now on to the downfall of 'Reckless', the formula is thick, gloopy and drying all at once, It looks like a hot mess when applied. I've tried wearing it alone, wearing it over lipbalm, over a lip pencil and even patting lip balm over it - nothing makes this lip lacquer look or feel nice. It never fully dries, so feels tacky and sticky, which is not ideal for such a dark colour, the fear of it smearing it undeniable.

Liquid lipsticks are a hard formula to pull off, and sadly MUA did not quite manage it.

What are your thoughts on the Luxe Lip Laquers?

Eye Makeup Look of the Day | #1

MOTD FOTD EOTD Porcelain Queen
I share a lot of makeup looks on my Instgram - @porcelainqueen1 but I rarely share any of my makeup looks here on Porcelain Queen, which is bizzare as makeup is my second love after Pepsi Max Cherry.

I thought it might be fun to share my favourite look I've created that week with you and maybe turn this into a weekly series - let me know your thoughts on this.

Essence Sun Club Matte Bronzing Powder

Essence Sun Club Matte Bronzing Powder
Essence is a new brand to me, after hearing such great things from fellow bloggers I decided to place an order for a few beauty bits. After using them for a couple of months I am ready to share my thoughts on a few products, including the Matte Sun Club Bronzer.

You can read my review on the Essence Liquid Effect Eyeshadows here
Swatch of Essence Sun Club Matte Bronzing Powder
Essence Sun Club Matte Bronzing Powder - shade 01

This gorgeous bronzer immediately caught my eye, mostly due to the size, but also as it came in a lighter shade option. I was in the market for an easy to wear, every day bronzer which did not cost the earth and the Sun Club bronzer ticked all the boxes.

Firstly I just need to address the smell of this bronzer, it smells divine - and I cringe at saying that word - but seriously it smells edible. It has the most sweet coconut scent which I have never seen in a cosmetic product. I know some people do not like scented makeup, but this truly is a gorgeous scent.

The packaging is not as chic and sleek as other bronzers I own, but for the price and size it's a small sacrifice. The bronzer it's self has an intricately stamped outline of two women, which is something I've never seen in a bronzer - I have actually used it that much that one of the woman looks like they've been chopped in half.

The shade is perfect for those of you, like me, who have fairer skin tones. It has the perfect amount of warm tones, so does not come off over overpoweringly warm. It's matte, because nobody needs glitter in their bronzing powder.

The formula is smooth and extremely finely milled, it does not have any chalkiness that you can find with a drug store bronzer. The powder applies flawlessly and blends impeccably, whether I have blotted my foundation or not.

At £3.50 this bronzer is an absolute steal which wont break the bank.

What are your thoughts on this bronzer?

The Ever Changing Makeup Bag | May

Makeup Revolution YSL

You can read the previous posts in the Ever Changing Makeup Bag Series below
Janurary | February | March | April
Left - Right | Fuchsia Oran | Heat | Iconic 1 Swatches

Eyes // I can count on one hand the amount of times I've used this palette, the shades are gorgeous so I want to start using this a lot more this month. It has the right mix of work appropriate and night time glam shades.

Lips // I rarely wear lip gloss but now the weathers warmer I want to wear lighter beauty products, and Lip gloss is so light and easy to wear, especially ones with a none sticky formula.

Face // I have been wearing more cream products as I have become obsessed with dewy looking skin, and cream blushes have become an unlikely obsession. I found this dusky coral blush in my makeup stash and I want to start wearing it more.

What will you be rediscovering this month?

Face B4 | A Four Week Skin Care Trial

Face B4 Anti-Bacterial Face Wash and Serum
Face B4 Anti-Bacterial Serum £9.99* | Face B4 Anti-Bacterial Face Wash £14.99*

Back in April I was contacted and asked if I would like to try a four week skin clearing treatment - and I of course said yes.

Although I do not have acne, or extremely 'broken out' skin, I do have combination/oily skin which Skin B4 claims to help reduce the oiliness - fingers crossed.

I was sent the Face B4 Anti-bacterial face wash, and the anti-bacterial serum, to use twice daily for four weeks. I will be starting my trial today, May 1st 2015 and ending 29th May 2015, I will write a follow up post sharing my thoughts and results.

Have you tried this skin care duo?
