Save or Splurge | Gel Eyeliners | #2

There are some makeup and beauty products that are of the same quality regardless of the price tag - in this Save or Splurge Series I'll be rummaging through my makeup collection and comparing my high end and drug store products to see if you can save your pennies or if you need to splurge.

You can read my last Save or Splurge Post below

I have quite a large gel eyeliner collection, all a variety of brands and prices, but do you actually need to spend money on an expensive gel eyeliner? This is a hard one to answer because some of my more expensive gel liners have dried out super fast, but so have my couple 'a quid ones. My all time favourite gel eye liner is by Inglot, which I thought would class as a drug store priced product, but when I looked at the price, it retails for £16 which is only a few pounds off MAC and Illamasqua - but if your in the market for a black gel liner I recommend this 100%.

I think the best game plan with gel eyeliners is buying affordable ones if you plan on opening and using several colours at once, but indulge if you plan on using the same colour repeatedly. This way when you open your chartreuse yellow eye liner,  that you bought when you were feeling adventurous - you wont be too heart broken to see its dry and crispy.

What are your thoughts? Would you prefer high end over high street eyeliners?

  1. I'm not much of a gel eyeliner wearer so I decided to go for a budget option and bought one from Sleek, which has been going strong (without drying) for over a year now and I really like it. :)

  3. I really suck at using gel liners, so I normally pass them up. I've practiced so much and failed each time- it's so frustrating to have perfectly made up eyes, then I try a gel liner and mess it all up! Haha. So I've given it up and use my trusty liquid liner!

  4. I have both the Maybelline and MAC gel eyeliner and actually prefer the Maybelline one (despite it being far cheaper!) but it's all about personal preference and how quick you can work with them I think as I find the MAC one dries so quickly but it does look darker and more pigmented so, for someone who can work quickly with it, then that would be their preferred choice!
