Monthly Round Up - The Hits & Misses | December

Happy New Years Eve Beauty Lovers!

I hope you all have an amazing night tonight what ever you're doing.

I thought I'd reflect on some of the products featured on Porcelain Queen this month and see what were the hits, and what were the misses.

Urban Decay Vice 3 Palette // This was one huge hit for me, I absolutely love it - I even recorded an everyday effortless makeup tutorial over on my YouTube Channel featuring this palette. You can watch that here

L'Oreal True Match Foundation // This product has fast become my favourite foundation, I've not touched another foundation since I bought this one, I'm so impressed by the coverage, lightweight formula and the longevity of it.

Too Faced The Return of Sexy Palette // This was a slight disappointment to me, it's the first Too Faced product I've owned, and all I've ever heard is good things about their products, however some of the shades in this palette just didn't measure up.

Maybelline Colour Drama Lip Pencils // I bought two of these pencils and one shade, Minimalist, which I had earmarked as my go to everyday lip colour was a huge disappointment. However the second shade, Light It Up, is an absolutely breathtaking red which compliments my skin tone no end.

YouTube // This month I made the decision to start uploading to my YouTube Channel, and so far I'm really enjoying making video's. Don't forget to like and subscribe to my channel.

MAC Prep and Prime Skin Base Visage Primer | Review

Just a quick forewarning this is a bizzare post, but hang in there until the end...

I was in MAC recently with my Mum who was getting her makeup done, and the Makeup Artist, used the Prep and Prime Skin Base Visage Primer on her, and I got slight primer envy so I bought one for myself. Now knowing my reactions to primers in the past you would have thought I would have at least tried it on the back of my hand or asked just one single question about it... well no... I parted with £21 without a second thought. For those of you none the wiser to my primer woes, read this post here and this one here - please excuse the terrible photography, those were the early days.

The first time I tried this primer I was horrified at the amount of shimmer in it, now I'm all for a highlighted and glowing complexion, but this was not that, my face literally looked like I'd bobbed for an apple in glitter, and I am a person who absolutely hates glitter, one single speck on my face and its enough to ruin my year. I took it back to MAC and basically asked why there was shimmer in the product and I was informed that the shimmer is only there as a guide, so you know where you've applied the product..yeah right? Who would be that conscious of priming their face! But me being me, I gave it another go...

I wore this primer every day for about a week and each day I woke up to a new discover a new blemish around my chin and the texture of my skin was increasingly uneven, thankfully adapting some Tea Tree oil into my skin care really helped to resolve this. I was then left with a dilemma, do I carry on using the primer or return it?

As you can guess I carried on using it, and after another few weeks I can honestly say I gained nothing from using this product. The shimmer was covered by the foundation which is fine by me, but I wasn't left with a radiant glow, so I still don't quite grasp the concept and the need for the shimmer. It primed my skin, but I didn't notice if I forgot to apply it, which never happens with my holy grail Smash Box primer.

Have you tried this primer? What were your thoughts?

Every Day Makeup Essentials for Busy Gals

Hi Beauty Lovers!

I hope you all had an amazing Christmas, now let the sale shopping commence! Today's post features a few beauty and make up products that I personally think are everyday essentials, especially if your pushed for time. I know some of you will prefer to go au natural, which is absolutely amazing, I salute you, however I like most people would prefer a little cosmetic enhancement before stepping out the door.

Base & Brush // When your pushed for time you want a foundation you know you can rely on, that buff effortlessly into your skin without too much persuasion from a brush. And secondly you need the right tool, a good foundation brush that you know works for you, I personally do not like flat foundation brushes. My top picks for quick and easy base is L'Oreal True Match and a Real Techniques Buffing Brush (sadly not photographed here)

Concealer // This is a three-in-one step, choose a lighter concealer with good coverage and you know is a decent eye primer. This way you can cover, highlight and prime your eyes in one simple step, for this I reach for my MAC Pro Longwear Concealer.

Powder // This set is a must for those of us who become oily and shiny throughout the day, its a 30 second job when paired with the right brush, and it means you wont have to touch up again. A compact powder is alot quicker than a messy loose finish, and choosing a large brush will mean your shine free a few fast swipes. I'd grab my L'Oreal True Match Powder and my Real Techniques Blush Brush.

Eyebrows // In the era of the bold and full brow, you really need to give them some attention, a quick comb through with a tinted brow gel will subtly fill them in, keep them in place all day and most importantly frame your face. When in a dash I run Maybelline Brow Drama through my brows and I'm good to go.

Eyes // This step is optional, but I prefer to have an eyeshadow on at all times, even if its barely detectable to the human eye. Chose a neutral colour preferably without too much shimmer, and a big firm blending brush. Simply run all over the lid and work through the crease. If you chose a shade to to complement your eye colour, even better. My go to products are Barely Naked by Makeup Geek and the Real Techniques Deluxe Crease Brush.

Lashes // A quick once over with your favourite mascara is all you need, choose one that instantly going to give you the false lash effect and make your eyes appear bigger and brighter. For me I'd reach for YSL Shocking Mascara.

Lips // This is totally interchangable, you could apply a quick coat of your favourite lip balm, gloss or lipstick - as long as its fuss freee, the last thing you want in a rush is having to line your lips and apply the lipstick painstakingly with a brush. My go to every day lip product is NYX Istanbul Soft Matte Lip Cream.

I hope this gives you some helpful tips and tricks on how to look your best when time is not a luxury you can afford.

ELF Stipple Brush | Review

Hi Beauty Lovers!

I hope your all ready for Christmas, for those of you brave enough to tackle shopping today, I salute you!

I've recently been getting back into wearing cream blush, I just find it much more natural looking and long lasting, however it can be a nightmare to apply, that's where the ELF Stipple Brush comes in. I find this brush so easy to work with, the bristles are synthetic, designed for use with cream products, and there also quite long and flexible which gives a more blended and natural finish. I find this brush picks up just the right amount of product, I've never over worked my face with cream blusher, it builds the pigmentation up slowly.

The white tipped bristles make washing the brush a doddle, simply wash until white again. It reshapes like a dream as long as you make sure the bristles are completely free, by this I mean, don't lay them on a surface, try and suspend the bristles over a windowsill.

The price of the brush is unbeatable, £3.95, and it looks a great quality brush with its simple black and white design.
ELF Stipple Brush - £3.95

I don't have any other ELF Studio brushes, let me know if you recommend any, if there anything like the Stipple Brush I'm sure they'll be great.

Golden Eyes and Red Lips | Festive Christmas Day Makeup

Hi Beauty Lovers!

Last week was so busy for me, the only day I had to record a video was Friday, and it was literally gale force winds so the back ground noise was horrendous, then I had builders round on Saturday and Sunday was spent cleaning up the mess they left, my Nephew was also born last week, so all in all a pretty busy week. But fear not I pulled my finger out and recorded...

I've tried not to edit too much, so hopefully you'll see 'me' a bit more, there was also a huge problem with the eye shadow I chose, but I make it work, and that's what make up's all about, trying new things, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

So here's the link to my Festive Christmas Makeup Tutorial - please like and subscribe if you enjoyed

Too Faced The Return of Sexy Palette | Swatches and Individual Shade Review

Hi Beauty Lovers!

Today I'm sharing with you the swatches and my thoughts on each indivual shade from the Too Faced 'The Return of Sexy' Palette. This is a two part post so make sure you've read part one HERE

I had high hopes for this palette, and after playing around with it for a while I've had some disappointments and some unexpected surprises. As nice as this palette is, the lay out is a nightmare to describe, so I've numbered the shades 1-15 to make it so much easier.
The Ingenue Shades - these were the colours I was most looking forward to swatching and trying out, but unfortunately most of them swatched differently to how they look in the pan, or they were very streaky and powdery.

(1) Naive - a frosty white, not highly pigmented and slightly powdery.

(2) Ingenue - this swatches a lot darker than it looks, in the pan its a gorgeous antique dirty gold, swatched it is a cool toned medium brown with large gold flecks of shimmer.

(3) Innocent - a warm organge toned brown with gold shimmer.

(4) New in Town - full on yellow gold - really poorly pigmented and powdery - this was a mjor disappointment!

(5) Casting Couch - a very dark brown with gold shimmer

The Icon Shades

(6) Pink Diamond - a barely there frosty pink toned white with a slight shimmer.

(7) Icon - a cool frosted pink with silver shimmer - one of my favourite shades.

(8) Divorcee - a taupe grey colour full of silver shimmer - I love this shade!

(9) Hopeless Romantic - An ultraviolet shimmery purple - so pretty!

(10) Primadonna - a very dark purple, almost black.

The Bombshell Shades - These turned out to be my favourite shades of the palette - they just scream out New Years Eve to me!

(11) 7 Year Itch - full on shimmery white, makes a great inner corner highlight.

(12) Bombshell - a true shimmery silver, this would shade would look gorgeous for a New Years Eve look.

(13) Hollywood - shimmery gun metal grey - not a common colour to see in an eye shadow - I love it

(14) Maneater - the odd colour out in this group of shade, a gold copper shade.

(15) Beautymark - probably the most matte colour of the palette with large flecks of silver glitter.

Which are your favourite shades in the palette?

Maybelline Colour Drama Lip Pencils | Swatches and Review

Hi Beauty Lovers!

It's seems like such a long time since I had a good rummage and browse of the shelves in Boots, its not something I do very often, but I always seem to find something new and exciting when I do. A few bits caught my eye, two being the Maybelline Colour Drama Lip Pencils. I thought these looked like great dupes for the NARS jumbo lip pencils which I absolutely love and I'm constantly lusting over, so I was eager to try them out.
Left - Light It Up | Right - Minimalist - both £4.99

When I swatched both these colours in boots they were creamy and glossy and just looked all round amazing - but then I got them home. I was so excited to use Minimalist, I unravelled the reams of sellotape from the packaging, to start applying it to my lips with great difficulty, only to see it was a chalky, hard glittery mess. It clung to every minuscule dry patch on my lips and exaggerated it, the glitter pieces looked ridiculous and the best bit, I could not rub my lips together because the formula is that dry. I read much about these pencils, but I'm not sure if I got a dud or if the lights in the display at Boots had warmed the product up and made it softer...who knows but it swiftly got cast aside.

I then reluctantly applied Light It Up to happily find it was the complete opposite, it was soft, buttery, glossy and moisturising. The colour has minimal orange undertones which I love, it is a stark letter box red, perfect for cool toned skin and fair complexions. I found it fairly easy to apply to the outline of my lips, although it tends to smear if you try to wipe away any mistakes. It didn't stain my lips like a typical dark colour would, it soon wiped away with my Garnier Micellar Water. The staying power is surprisingly good, I found it had minimal transfer and didn't fade - I wasn't expecting this as it removes so easily, so you get the best of both.

For the price Light It Up has completely blown me away, it has the feel of a luxury lip product, but Minimalist was a complete and utter waste of my money.

What are your thoughts on these Lip Pencils?

Too Faced The Return of Sexy Palette | First Impressions

Hi Beauty Lovers!

Thumbs up for consistent posting these past few weeks! I hope you've enjoyed my more frequent post's - and dare I say better quality photographs as well as my venture into YouTube.

To keep this post from spilling into next week I'll be giving you my first impressions on the palette and shades overall and reviewing the swatches and individual shades in another post - I did this with the Urban Decay Vice 3 palette and I think it worked a lot better.

As I mentioned in a previous post I bought a few products from Debenhams during a sale, and this was an item I'd had my eye on for a while, so it swiftly and without regret got added to my basket.

I find myself at a loss for words with the packaging, I love some elements to it, like the gold lettering and the embossed print in the case, however I just do not like the feel of it one bit. It's nothing detrimental that would ever stop me using or reaching for the palette, I just cant quite put my finger on what it is that I don't love about it.

The inside of the palette oozes luxury, the eye shadows are so gorgeous and shimmery, they scream night time glam. As you can see from the photographs, the eye shadows are logically grouped into coordinating colours which relates to an eye look Too Faced have created, the neutrals are 'The Ingenue', the purples 'The Icon' and the greys 'The Bombshell'. Without a second thought my favourites are The Ingenue shades, there completely my style - I love any gold eye shadow!

This palette wont be for everyone, you really have got to be a fan of shimmer, because the one thing this palette lacks is a matte shade. This need not be a problem, I'm sure if you delved into your make up stash you'd find a matte eye shadow somewhere. Also this, in my opinion isn't your every day palette, for me it has the look and feel of a 'going out' palette. Dont get me wrong, there are shades that would look beautiful for an everyday look, but for me its not one I reach for on a typical work day.

The palette comes with a mini Shadow Insurance Eye Primer and a full sized Perfect Eyes waterproof black eye liner. It costs £38.50, but the eyeliner alone retails at £15, so broken down like that it seems like a reasonable priced palette.

There are some gorgeous shades included, ones that have caught my eye are a bright gold and the rosey pink - hopefully they swatch and look amazing.

What do you think to this palette?

Argan Oil | Review & How To for Soft Skin & Nourished Hair

Hi Beauty Lovers!

A couple of weeks back I shared this post here with you, giving you the low down on my hair oiling routine, I mentioned that I was in the early stages of testing Argan oil. I'd not been using the oil long enough to form a well rounded opinion, but after using it steadily for a few weeks I'm ready to share my thoughts with you.

Before I start I just really want to stress that, the Argan oil I buy is 100% pure, the only ingredient is Argan oil, I am not recommending Argan infused oils, they cost just as much if not more and they are manufactured with other ingredients and chemicals... your hair and you bank balance deserve better. I know I sound like a stern mum but I'd hate for you to buy the wrong product off my recommendation.

After getting my hair in tip top condition I really wanted to maintain it, so I added Argan Oil into my routine. I thought it would be expensive but after a bit of research I picked mine up for £12.99, from Holland and Barret. It has fastly become my most used daily oil, it is so versatile and easy to use. It comes in a handy pipette topped bottle making it fuss and mess free.

I use my Argan oil with my conditioner to give an extra boost of moisture, I massage a few drops into the mid section and ends when wet, and lastly a quick lick after styling with heat. I find it absorbs wonderfully, I'm not left with a slick feeling like a typical serum would leave, it feels as though it soaks straight into my hair and nourishes it from the core - which lets be honest we all want!

Not only has this done wonders for my hair, but it's got to work on my skin aswell! I add a few drops into my bath and my skin is noticeably softer each time, and as a bonus it doesn't leave your bath slippery like baby oil does.

I am currently trying out a few more oils which include Jojoba, Grape Seed, Chamomile and Rosemary - so I'll keep you informed on the results.

Have you used Argan Oil before? How do you use yours?

Benefit Watt's Up Cream to Powder Highlighter | Review & Swatches

Welcome Back Beauty Lovers!

You probably wont believe me if I told you...but I'm going to tell you any way...I've had this post on my 'Blog Post Ideas' list for nearly a year! Unbelievable right? I got this gorgeous highlighter in a Benefit Christmas set in 2013 and each month it gets bumped down the idea's list to make room for a newer product, but finally today it has it's time to shine.

I do only own the miniature version of the highlighter, but benefit did such a great job with the packaging making it nearly identical to the original.
I like to think of this highlighter as my skin but better - the sheer champagne toned hue blends effortlessly into my natural fair complexion giving me a natural looking glow. The colour is absolutely gorgeous, a pale and wearable soft gold, perfect for the holiday season upon us. The colour reminds me of a subtle MAC Soft & Gentle, but it's more of a peek-a-boo, wash of shimmer.

I love the consistency, you wouldn't know it was a cream product because once blended it sits perfectly on the skin, no tell tale streaks or heaviness of a typical cream product. All it takes is a few pats and its blended seamlessly into your skin. I wear this on top of foundation on my cheekbones, and on my brow bone, you can layer another highlight on top if you want a more glowing or dramatic look.

My miniature version doesn't have the sponge blending tool, but I honestly don't think that I would even entertain that idea of using that, shy away from sponge applicators for hygiene reasons, the thought of that being pressed on my face repeatedly just fills me with terror. I have enough time to apply the highlight where I want and then go back and gently blend it out with my finger before it magically turns into a powder.

The full sized versions would cost you £23.50, but it would last you a life time, you only need the quickest swipe and your glowing. in several years when I've used up my miniature I'll definitely be buying the full size.

What do you think to this highlighter?

Loreal True Match Foundation | Review

 Happy Monday Beauty Lovers!

The dreaded Monday morning has rolled round again, but I hope you all had fabulous weekends! To break my recent eye shadow post madness I thought I would mix things up a bit and throw in a foundation review. I find with foundations I'm like a penguin with its soul mate - once I find one I like I look no further. Having some what temperamental skin I shy away from branching out and trying new foundations. But after hearing L'Oreal True Match mentioned over and over from all my favourite YouTubers I decided to get myself onto the bandwagon and try it for myself.
This is by far the most natural, light weight and long lasting foundation I have ever used, it surpasses all the luxury foundations I own. The colour match is unbelievable, my shade is D1 a true cool toned pale shade, it matches my undertones perfectly and I can add what warmth I want to my face with bronzer - which is a luxury I've never had with a foundation.

I want a foundation to be long wearing, which in the past is something I've never fully experienced, typically when removing my make up at night I find half the products already disappeared, but with the True Match I find it's still hanging around looking great. The finish is semi matte, it requires minimal powdering - and this is coming from a gal with an oily T-Zone - and I only notice shine and oil break through after around 10+ hours.

The formula is so light and thin that it can be a nuisance to apply, you cannot pump it out on your hand or your face because it is that incredibly thin and liquidy, however I apply it to something clean and flat and dab it around my face. The coverage you get is a pleasant surprise, I certainly was not expecting much with the thin consistency but its one hell of a pigmented foundation, it really gives you amazing medium and buildable coverage.

I really have fallen for this foundation which I half wasn't expecting, I've been using it solidly for a few weeks now and I haven't once reached for my MAC, Laura Mercier or Bobbi Brown foundation. I still love each of these foundations, there just benched for the forseeable.

Have you tried this foundation? What are your thoughts?

MAC Palette Project | Month Six

Hi Beauty Lovers!

Today I'm back with another post in my MAC palette project series. This series sadly got away from me, with everything that happened recently I never had chance to continue my MAC palette so to say this is month six would be an understatement - post six would be more accurate!

Check out my other MAC Palette Project posts below

This shade came highly recommended - not personally but I've been recently rewatching a lot of +Jaclyn Hill YouTube videos and its mentioned in nearly every video, and when Jacyln Hill recommends a product you've bought it before the video ends! That lass could sell wool to a sheep!

Nylon is the most underated eye shadow I've ever seen, in the pan it looks a flat cream, but swatched it the most gorgeous yellow tones off white shade, I don't know of a shade like this! It's perfect for highlighting...everywhere. It's fast become my multitasking highlighter, on days where I dont have the time for 1 million highlighting products a dab of this shade here and there just gives you a subtle sheen.

I wore this on my cheeks recently for a quick highlight and was told I had the cheeks of a model...not quite but I appreciated the complement.

Have you tried Nylon before? What do you think to this beautiful shade?

MAC Pro Longwear 'In Anticipation' Lip Pencil | Swatches & Review

Hi Beauty Lovers!

Today's product is a first on Porcelain Queen - I have never owned a luxury lip pencil before in my entire life - in fact come to think of it I don'd think I've ever even worn one - oh bad beauty blogger! I have a constant love hate relationship with my lips - I find with a nude lip colour there okay, but the minute I apply a dark lip it exaggerates the imperfections. So if someone had suggested I buy a lip pencil I would have thought 'what's the point' - oh how wrong I was.

In a word In Anticipation is just me, its everything I love in a lip colour, its fresh, deep pink but still playful...its perfect. The formula is creamy and smooth and glides on without pulling at your lips, giving you the perfect outline to your lipstick.

The staying power is unbeatable - it stayed put even when I was devouring the Geek USA burger at Mud Crab last Sunday. If your wondering what the Geek USA burger is its a man v food style burger with peanut butter AND a fried egg...dont judge it works!

Now can we just take a minute to lust over this lip pencil...

Have you got any absolute holy grail lip pencils to share?

Urban Decay Vice 3 Palette | Swatches and Individual Shade Reviews

Hi Beauty Lovers!

Today as promised I'm sharing with you the swatches from the amazing Vice 3 palette, as well as individual mini reviews on each shade. If you missed my previous post you can catch up HERE for a detailed review on the overall palette.
 L-R | DTF | Downfall | Undone | Truth

DTF - I love this shade just for its name! 'She's DTF!' Just me? This is a perfect matte brown ideal for adding some depth to your crease or some smoke to to your outer V

Downfall - Downfall is a camel brown, I really cannot describe it any other way, all the neutral lovers will fall for this shade.

Undone -  a great transitional shade, it makes blending out dark eye shadow a dream.

Truth - a flat matte off white - a great alternate to a shimmer highlight.
L-R | Brokedown | Heroine | Freeze | Dragon

Brokedown - Err my gard this is (if I remember rightly) pretty much identical to my beloved Smog! A dirty muddy shimmery brown - pure bliss!

Heroine - matte navy blue

Freeze - shimmery bright teal

Dragon - shimmery bright green
L-R | Bobby Dazzle | Reign | Lucky | Vanity

Bobby Dazzle - a runner up for the best name! A stark frosted white.

Reign - Matte muddy brown

Lucky - Argh this shade gives me life! Its golden, orange, rusty shimmery heaven!

Vanity - playful bright purple
L-R | Sonic | Bondage | Alchemy | Alien

Sonic - a runner up for best shade. Bright red but with orange undertones. Urgh love it.

Bondage - very dark matte purple with brown undertones.

Alchemy - bright fuschia pink

Alien - bright matte pink - although in the picture looks shimmery - it most definitely is not.
L-R | Revolver | Defy | Angel | Last Sin

Revolver - very dark gun metal grey with silver flecks

Defy - deep dark matte cool toned brown

Angel - mid toned cool shimmery brown

Last Sin - shimmery frosted yellow toned off white - wow that was a mouthful - I feel like this shade or one similar is in a lot of the Urban Decay palettes already but just named differently

Which shades are you loving from this palette? My ultimate favourites are Lucky and Sonic...and angel...and last sin...argh too many to choose from.
